THIS IS INTIMIDATING WHERE DO I BEGIN PLEASE HELP
We have gotten this so many times and honestly, there's no need to be nervous! Start off just swimming through applications, the started roleplays, the OOC thread, and how everything flows here. Take breath and, if you are still interested, check out The Cast page and snag a character. You have some time to start your application, so edit it at your liege in the In-Progress page. From there, move the thread to the "Ready to be Read" page and we will get you started.
Writing wise, what kind of forum is this?
This is a para-style literary board. At average, the shortest a reply is a solid paragraph, at least five (5) sentences, although eight (8) is strongly encouraged and preferred. We don't expect a novel, but decent writing you can be proud of that gets your point effectively across. No one likes their well-thought out text to be replied with a half-assed "K."
Is script style allowed?
No. Script would be fine if it was MSPARP but Proboards really does let us chip away a nice-looking response so why not utilize it?
How does one Proboards?
Not only are there a bunch of tutorials out there, but it is easy enough to play around with and get the hang of. Be sure that you are playing with your profiles and getting a feel for those too. Photobucket might just be your new best friend when it comes to profile photos, reference photos via HTML, etc.
For example, we ask that you change the color of your text when your character is speaking like so. If you haven't realized this yet, Proboards is a lot about HTML codes that are quite easy to catch onto, but if you don't get something, feel free to message us!
Also, understand how to move threads around. That's really important too!
Is this humanstuck?
Yes! If you're having trouble finding a picture to suit your headcanons, you can post in the Anything Else? board asking if someone would be willing to draw your character(s) for you.
I’ve never read Harry Potter, but I’ve seen the movies (or vice versa), can I still join?
Yes, of course! The Wiki has everything you need, even if you are new to the Harry Potter universe. harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
About my “Profile”, what should it look like?
It should have your birthdate (a year is unnecessary), your character’s full name, a “Latest Status”, your character’s gender, and a photo of your character’s face/upper body, and the title from the top of your application. For example: “Gryffindor | Sixth Year | Chaser | Captain”. If you could add any ways of contact on there under “Instant Messaging”, that would be lovely. A signature is not necessary, but can look nice. Please keep them short nonetheless.
If you cannot crop/find a photo of your character that you would like, talk to one of the staff.
Is it necessary to make a chatango?
Not at all, though if you want to ask any quick questions or just would like to chat, signing up is super easy and quick.
Application:
Where do I ask to reserve a character?
Right in the “Cast” section!
I am busy and am unable to finish my application within 10 days. What do I do?
No worries! Simply ask for an extension in the “Cast” section. We will give you another week or so.
What do I title it?
Says at the top of the application.
Can I RP an OC of mine?
Sure! We do expect your application to be a bit more in depth than canon characters, though. We know nothing of your OC and this really helps get a grasp on them.
I’m not the best with English. Can I still apply?
This is a literate board. So long as you may write literately, it is fine with us.
Roleplaying
I just got accepted and I don't know where to begin.
Well, you can post something about yourself in the Introductions and toss something in the Plotting section. Flip through some of the Open RPs going on and see if you're able to hop in on one of those. It's all a bit intimidating, but everyone is very friendly.
My characters are moving from one place to another, but my thread is in one spot.
To move a thread while you're viewing it, click on the Actions drop-down at the top of the thread. Select Moderate, and then select Move to wherever your characters are moving.
This is a mandatory step if your characters are to be moving, especially if it is a public thread. www.proboards.com/admin-guide/moderation/moving
Can I RP more than one character?
Of course you can! Just know that it is your responsibility to post a couple of times a week as each character. We recommend at least daily, as these threads will move quickly whether you are there or not. We will be having activity checks here and there as well.
So just how many characters can I have?
We're going to put a cap on at about two for the sole reason that this enables you to focus on the individual rather than multiple characters. If we know you/there is another minor character you would like to claim, talk to us and we can make a compromise.
As a professor, I want to hold a class, but don't know where to start. How do I plan this with other students?
You would go ahead to the plotting section and make a thread there of your class idea before giving it a go. All professors must at least attempt to be of some authority in the halls and/or teach.
