Roxy came downstairs, already in her robes and umbrella in hand. It was Saturday, and because she had no classes she was planning to wander the grounds or something while it was still warm (just because she disliked the sun doesn't mean she liked being cold). Roxy hopped down the steps two at a time, excited and hungry. Even though she already went through one year at Hogwarts, it was still brand new and exciting and she could do MAGIC! Like, real, serious magic! And all she had to do was wave her wand and say something right and then magic happened and it was amazing.
Roxy hopped down the last three steps, skidding to a stop when she noticed a familiar, meticulously styled mess of blond hair. Dirk! She ran forward, slid over and ended up plopping right beside him. "Hey!!!" She bounces beside him, slinging an arm around his shoulders, "Heya Diiiiirky, didn't know you'd be up so early in th' Ravenclaw common room, 'f all places. What'cha up to? Somethin' happen, maybe?" She's loud, and slurring, and she hasn't noticed who's she's been talking to yet.

Hal had been minding his own business, curled up in a corner of the couch, his new Charms textbook in hand as he enjoyed the peace and quiet that was the solitude of an empty common room. His shades sat on the small table beside him because they tended to obstruct his reading, though the task wasn't necessary. Still, he was compelled to get through the book as soon as he was able to get a head start over the other first years.
That didn't seem likely today.
A loud greeting and unfamiliar touch yanked his attention from the pages, and he jerked away as best he could in the close confines, more than taken aback at the strange familiarity currently assaulting his personal space. The fuck? She may have the wrong person, but at least this...girl couldn't be a total stranger, as she seemed more than familiar with his brother, though that in no way clued him in to her identity. Brows furrowed in an calculating stare, he peered up at her, noting the wide smile stretched across her face, before finally speaking up, quietly cleared his throat. "If you're looking for my brother, sorry to disappoint, but he's probably still passed out with the other Gryffindors, so I doubt anything's happened, no." He was having a hard time imagining Dirk hanging around someone so obtrusive, but seeing as they rarely spoke, he had room to doubt his own judgement. "Unfortunately for us both, I'm Hal, and you've interrupted my studies. Hello."

"Oh shit, you aren't Dirk..." She speaks as though this was an honest surprise for her - which it was. Although, now that Roxy actually thought about it, it would make sense. This was early morning, on a Saturday, in the Ravenclaw common room. Dirk being here would just be weird, actually. "So, Mr. Hal, I'm assumin' then you're the youngest Strider, and you got sorted here?" Roxy thinks about the sorting ceremony for a second, trying to remember any younger Strider, and although the memory was faint (she was too busy making faces at her friends at the other tables), she guessed she could remember a tiny Dirk taking the stage. Maybe.
"Oh my god, this is gonna be great. I wonder why Dirky didn't mention you, tha's lame and he's lame." She nods, man, this girl talks a lot, "Although you should prob'ly know that, bein' his li'l bro and all. I can't believe you even style your hair like that, like, omg, how long did that even take? Like, for serious that seems like a shitton 'a work for hair and I'm not sure anyone should even take that much effort on somethin' like that." Ramble ramble ramble. She was almost like Dave.

Alright, so it was apparent she wouldn't be extracting herself any time soon. With an internal sigh, he closed the book and tucked it between the couch's arm and his side, shifting uncomfortably under the blonde's amiable embrace. He could get through this, she was bound to leave eventually. Thankfully, her rambling gave him another moment to assess her and the situation, only interjecting when she finally took a breath of pause. "If my robes are any indication, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say I'm a Ravenclaw, and no, it's not that hard to style now that I've been doing it for years." At this, he paused. It'd be in his best interests not to appear rude. "And you are?"
In truth, she did remind him of Dave a little bit, what with the way she seemed able to go on endlessly on any available topic. The comparison made it a little less irksome than it'd been initially, though he still prepared himself for another verbal onslaught.

When she realized he was shifting to get away from her, she brought her arm down, face turning slightly red out of embarrassment. Oops. Her extremely pale skin made the blush that much brighter, and Roxy ended up shifting away a bit, "Shit, sorry, I only did that 'cause I thought you were Dirk an' you're not an'-" Roxy takes a deep breath before she starts rambling and slurring - a terrible combination - focusing on his question, "Right, ne'way, I'm Roxy! Roxy Lalonde," She shifts back and holds out her hand, expecting a handshake from him.

Oh thank god. Hal's posture visibly relaxed once his personal space was restored, and with a small nod, he accepted the handshake. "It's fine, I get it. You're not the first to mix us up." Of course he wouldn't mention the resemblance was entirely his intention, that'd seem weird and probably a little sad.
He took a mental note to remember her name. She didn't seem as bad as his first impression of her, just rather bumbling and enthusiastic, he couldn't blame her for that. Besides, that blush suited her rather nicely. "Alright, Roxy." A nice name, if Hal cared about such things. "...So it's pretty evident you know my brother well enough."

"Yeah! We had'a few classes together last year, an' he's really cool." Roxy pauses to giggle, "Well, inna whole I'm-a-huge-dork-who-tries-t'-act-cool typ'a thing. Did he not talk 'bout me at all though? Tha's jus' rude." She huffs. The girl seems to switch between emotions pretty quickly, but always seems to end up back at happy. Honestly, Roxy just acted upset half the time for the fun of it, rather than being actually upset.
She sat back on the couch, facing him with a rather intent and interested look rather than sitting with her back against the cushions. Roxy sat cross-legged, despite being in both a skirt and robe, confident in the knowledge that she wore leggings under her skirt, so it was okay - right? Right. Not like she cared much anyway, if someone tried something she would punch them out, despite being 5' and a second year. Years of kickboxing lessons left the girl with the knowledge that hand-on-hand fights would probably go her way.

Lucky for Hal, he was too awkward to try anything, anyways, let alone too young to genuinely harbor such thoughts.
He started to reply, but faltered for a moment when he realized just how intently she planned on listening to him. What the hell? The sudden attention threw him off guard, and it took him another moment to start again, once more clearing his throat. "Dirk and I, ah, don't really talk much," he confessed, inconspicuously toying with the inside hem of his robe's sleeves. "Though you could say that again, dude's a total tryhard." Says the one mimicking him like a hopeless puppy. That's expected of little brothers, though, right?
"And, uh, he might've mentioned you once or twice, I probably just wasn't listening."

Roxy wasn't sure what the big deal was, either, honestly, but she did know that if someone tried to flip her skirt - for whatever reason - she would take them down.
She actually leaned forward a bit when he spoke, bursting into a grin at his second sentence, "Nah, it's cool, jus' gives me more reason t'give him a harder time, don't worry 'bout it." She gives a flippant motion with her hand, shaking her head a little, "'gain, Hal, don'tcha worry your pretty li'l head about it, right?" She totally just called him pretty, swoon your heart out, Hal. "Also yeah, no, Dirk is th' biggest Dirk and you should keep this in mind always in forever." Nod nod nod. Hal was totally and completely getting her full attention right now, and when the door to the girl's rooms opened, she didn't even glance over.

Yeah, go get them, baby. Hal's got your flower.
To become so invested in this girl's interest was Hal's last intention, but it was something that happened so rarely to him, he found himself wanting to bask in it. Too bad he'd never allow himself. His eyes flicked to the stairs when he heard the door open, and while he'd normally move along once people came in, he didn't particularly care today. He was, god forbid, actually socializing with someone, and a second year at that. Who's the baby first year now? Spoiler alert, still Hal.
He nearly snorted at the play on words, the smallest hint of a grin threatening to break past his facade, but damn him if he were going to let it. "Oh, you can count on me for that, he's the biggest Dirk in all of Scotland." It was surprisingly easy to warm up to her, and although unfamiliar, Hal didn't find it unpleasant. "It's embarrassing really, how cool he tries to be. I'm not sure how I've dealt with him this long, but props to you for sticking around him. Lord knows he needs it. Bro can be as friendly as a broom handle." Oh Hal, shush. You have no room to talk.

He was seriously adorable and - oops. There it was, Roxy had yet another crush. This would bring the number up to - still uncountable. Amazing.
"Oh, he's not that bad!" She snorts, shaking her head, "And loads better at communication than broom handles - or th' kids at my old - I mean, the kids who were at my muggle school." This could also be due to Roxy not having any friends at her muggle school. Honestly, when she met someone who didn't treat her any different for her slur or for her skin or for the weird things she could do, she attached herself to his side. Plus the kid seemed kinda lonely, as well, hiding behind a stone barrier, and instead of being separately lonely, Roxy figured they could be not-lonely together.
And it worked out, for the most part, and she met Jake, and he was adorkable, and Jane, who was super awesome, and she enjoyed her classes and her magic and everything was great. Hogwarts was definitely the best thing that happened to her. "So what about you? Met any cool people or made 'ne friends?"

Hal was simply flattered by the attention. No dokis over here. Nope. None at all. Conceal, don't feel.
So she was muggleborn. Huh. Alright, then. Is it normal to find someone snorting cute? "Maybe to you, at least." Okay, so he could see how Dirk could befriend a girl like her. Not that he'd let him know that. Or that he'd even spoken with her. Dirk didn't need, or seem to particularly want, to know any of his business, anyways.
...And there it was, that deadly question. With a quick shrug, he tried his best to appear indifferent. "Eh, not really. My classmates aren't particularly interesting, but I expected that much." And it wasn't a lie, he hadn't encountered anyone worth mentioning. That was, well, until this morning, at least. "Not that it matters really, people just aren't my thing."

Roxy finally figured why he looked... Different than Dirk, and not just the red-eyes (which were super cool - but she's not gonna mention that at the moment), but it was the lack of shades. She leaned over slightly to spot them on the table beside Hal - ah! There they were!
She sits back up to focus on him again, enjoying immensely seeing a Strider's face without any sort of shades. It was new, and awesome, honestly. "I don't think he could ever re'ly be like any of the muggles I knew, which makes him really great." Roxy gives a little sigh and shrug, "I really like bein' his friend, Dirk-yness aside."
At Hal's reply to the 'friend' question, she tilts her head, "No one at all? Tha's super lame..." Another shrug, "Well Mr. Hal, if you ever wanna hang wit' someone, you can totally hang out with me, 'specially in the common room or at the table, we might be in sep'rate grades, but I'll still tot'ly be your friend." She ends this with a large grin, so wide her face actually scrunches up.

What. What. Hal's breath caught in his throat as Roxy leaned in closer, eyes widening unintentionally as he stared at her, baffled. A small puff of breath escaped as he relaxed once more, only to be halted yet again as she fixed her gaze solely on his. Holy crap. Wow. She's got, um, pretty eyes.
His brain actually starts working again once she lets her focus drop, and though the encounter was hardly more than a few seconds, it certainly didn't seem like it. The poor boy nearly had a doki heart attack. A twinge of jealously pierced his chest at her praise of Dirk, but he did his best to stifle it. Of course she's going to say nice things about him, they're friends, after all. "Oh, well...thanks." He didn't say anything cliche like 'I'd like that,' or 'That sounds really nice." Just a simple thanks. It wasn't often Hal was at a loss for words.

Her pretty eyes widen, and Roxy blinks a few times, thinking about what she just said. She didn't say anything too weird, she thinks. Roxy is still kinda new at localizing with people who won't try to make fun of her and/or beat her up so she's not sure where boundaries are, "Are you okay? Was that a bad thing t'say? Sorry, if it was... I jus', thought I'd offer, since I know what it's like t'not talk t'people an' tha's not really fun an'-" Shit, she started rambling, and Roxy wasn't sure how to stop herself now, "I mean, it's fine if you really don't wanna hang out wit' me, I'm not gonna. b'like, hurt or anythin' - shit, I mean, it's not like I don't think you're not cool or ne'thing, but I'm not sure -" Deep breath, "I mean, what I'm tryin' t'say-" Another deep breath, "I'm gonna shut up now." And finally Roxy bites her lips, stopping herself from speaking again. Her face is bright red, a mixture of rambling and embarrassment and albinism, and at the moment she just focused on Hal's reaction.
Shit, she totally just made a huge fool of herself, goddamnit, Rox.
