Astris Captor | Ravenclaw | Professor: Astronomy
-BASICS-
Character Name:
Astris "Psiionic" Captor
Professor or Student?:
Professor
Age:
42
Subject (Professors only):
Astronomy
House:
Ravenclaw
Wand: Spruce, Phoenix Feather, 13 1/2 inches, Slightly Springy
-LOOKS-
Appearance (100 character minimum):
Astris is the picture of elegance...from far away, at least. He stands at 6'4" and is slender in build, but not sleight. He has inherited the seeming Captor gene of heterochromia ( one reddish-brown eye, and one blue), which he covers with glasses that he's needed as he's gotten older. There are some mysterious scars on his arms and shoulders that seem to be runic in nature, but when asked about them, he tends to find a way to change the subject. He carries himself in the way of someone who had to fight to grow into himself, and it calls back to a childhood of lankiness. He's still long-limbed but considerably more graceful about it at this point. This applies to fingers and toes, as well. He has darker, not-quite black hair, angular facial features, thin lips, and seemingly permanent bags under his eyes, despite his fairly lively disposition.

-ABOUT-
Personality (200 character minimum):
Despite his growing age, he has a youthful air about him, and treats both students and fellow staff members with respect and an open mind, so long as he gets the same in return. He teaches the way he'd want to be taught, and keeps his students on their toes with plentiful questions and new ways of thinking, despite the connotation associated with Astronomy of being "boring". As he puts it, "How can something so ever-changing and so visible be boring?" Despite his pretty positive and witty nature, there are times when he is withdrawn, particularly when he's alone. He becomes brooding and passive until provoked, at which point he will flare with a temper that is surprisingly fiery for someone usually so collected.
Background (Why Hogwarts? Childhood? Any connections to other characters?):
His childhood seems to be relatively happy, and up until his late teens, Astris had no real worries besides doing well in school (his favorite subjects were Ancient Runes and Arithmancy) and maintaining a rather busy social image. After he left Hogwarts and embarked on his own journey to do some research concerning his favorite subjects, things changed. Astris came back from the Eastern world a changed man, and the bags under his eyes and scars on his arms haven't left his facade since. All things said, whatever occurred on that journey seems to have made him a quietly powerful wizard, as the spruce wand that fought him through his schooling seems to have found its master worthy. After a few years of darkness, he seemed to perk up and continued more quiet, local research, switching his field of focus to Astronomy, specifically on the effects of particular constellations. When offered a teaching tenure at his old school, he eagerly accepted and has been at Hogwarts ever since.
He is the uncle of Sollux Captor and Mituna Captor, his twin brother being their father, and seeks to be sort of the "cool" uncle with his nephews, though avoids nepotism as best he can. He has associations with his old classmates, including fellow professor Freyir Ampora (their relationship is an odd one, certainly), and maintains a light friendship with the groundskeeper, Aza'zel Makara.
For Professors: Why is your character teaching the class they are?
Though Astris excelled keenly in both Ancient Runes and Arithmancy, he has completely dropped association with runic lore after an incident when he was younger and chose a field that better lit up his worldview.
Quirks & Et cetera (Anything else you would like to add?):
Astris has a penchant for wonderful (terrible) puns and the wit to match. He once had a lisp that now only comes out in times of duress. During his time in the East, he adopted a few customs, including a liking for tea and meditation. He finds the theology of balance and moderation to be something he identifies strongly with. He collects interesting ties and has a tendency to never be wearing matching socks. He's often seen wandering the grounds/the higher parts of the castle between classes, eyes upwards to the sky, day or night. It's wondered if he even sleeps.
