-LOOKS-
Appearance (100 character minimum):
Towering at a not so staggering 5’11”, Thaddeus A. Vantas is the Headmaster of Hogwarts and a charismatic public speaker. What the man lacks in height he makes up in voice, respect, and grandeur. Albeit Thaddeus has a few grey hairs floating in that messy mop of dark hair, the man mistakenly looks to be in his mid-forties from how well he takes care of himself, his herbal remedies, and wizardly aging. He keeps a short pony tail in the lower half of his hair to keep his sweeping side bangs and his bedhead in check. (As most Vantases have a horrid reputation for not being able to groom their hair.) As such, the Headmaster wears his robe’s hood, not only for the hiding of his messy hair, but he says it makes him have character (Everyone knows it’s mainly the bed head though.)
The shorter stature of Thaddeus’s appearance is cloaked over with colorful patterns and a horrid fashion sense that makes the headmaster easy to spot. He sometimes changes robes in the midst of company faculty, never fully stripping, but tends to freak out the newer teachers with his lack of care for personal appearances and decency. He’s polite, but he’s unnerving in how comfortable he appears at all times.
His sometimes almost glowing (cheeky sometimes referred) look in his reddish auburn eyes is that which keeps the old castle in the spirits it is always in, when found dull or dark, something is obviously deathly wrong given the man’s constant optimism. A few small scars dot the headmaster’s face, from his childhood or from countless Wizarding duels we’ll never know.

-ABOUT-
Personality (200 character minimum):
Since his childhood, Thaddeus has always found himself standing up for others and speaking. Not only was he excelling as a child in his academics, but his sense of humility was unmatched among his peers. He continues to be quite a methodical talker and tends to visit the schools classes, opens his presence to students in need, and is a proud and stern supporter of muggle rights amongst the Wizarding and persistently oppressing ways of the past restricting muggles and muggle products to infiltrate the Wizarding world. He has always been fascinated with them, and even in his younger days of being a student at Hogwarts, he was known as chatty Thaddy (which he persistently protested as a complement that he at least talked up for others instead of watching others suffer) because of his habit of prodding at muggle born students for the latest outer world news or stories of their home-lives.
He’s quite lively and extremely open minded to most ideals, his non-judgmental nature make him one of the most understanding people in the academy. Sadly, he’s not so popular with some pureblood parents and teachers, and tends to sometimes prod and jest some of the teachers who disagree with his openness. (Namely Freyir Ampora and the Serkets.) Though he tolerates some tendencies, hate and slurs of hurtful nature he doesn’t respond well to given his own past. He tends to be familial with most students (as well as certain faculty) and seems like the type you can tell anything.
Background (Why Hogwarts? Childhood? Any connections to other characters?):
Born in the midst of the summer of 1956, in the last half of June, Thaddeus was born to Kalina Vantas and her boyfriend Mavrin Boldmov. He was born quite chunky and healthier than most children, weirdly with his eyes open at birth. He was named after his great grandfather on his mother’s side, his middle name actually being that of an old story book character that Thaddeus sr. used to read to Kalina when she was a child.
His father soon left the scene after his birth leaving his mother to fend on her own as a single mother witch in a muggle village in East Germany with the father’s family. During the Russian oppressive era, the Berlin Wall’s construction began, during Thaddeus’s childhood: Thaddeus at age four was ushered by his birth father’s family to escape with his mother, of whom only accompanied him to the half built walls before shoving him through a small opening and leaving him to run for his life into Western Germany.
Thaddeus lived, for most of his childhood thereafter his escape, learning his ways around most of North Western Occupied Germany’s streets. At the age of 10 he’d perfected the art of card tricks and simple magic’s to make coin to buy food, which gained the attention of a Ministry of Magic undercover wizard who was stationed in the English quarter in the city of Hamburgh. He soon took Thaddeus in out of pity and to keep him safe. The man realized the boys gifts of foresight quite early on, when the lad began talking about events-to-be in his sleep upon the cot, only for those events to take part only days later. Thaddeus’s new caretaker soon returned his French home with the boy in tow, only to negotiate enrollment in a wizarding school. Despite his past, Thaddeus soon learned broken English as well as enrolled into Beauxbotons, and officially began his life as a young gifted wizard among the best of France's youth.
He wasn't much liked about his peers, as he never quite shuttup wanting to know about muggle news and how the "war" was going on between the Russians and the Allies. Though when it came down to projects, he was normally first pick because of his learning abilities and his top ranking scores in his academics.
As years went on students warmed up to the adopted German, but soon found him odd when he stopped sleeping and chittering to himself after the Yule ball in his sixth year. His visions grew worse during his academy years and soon drove him to sputter out leaks of people's future and gibberish about a falling of a great structure.
During his last year of Schooling he’d learnt enough magic to free his mother from the walls of Berlin; as the year passed, and as his studies excelled he began preparing for a long overdue visit to the city of West Berlin.
The trip hadn't gone as planned and he never returned with his family.
Thaddeus now 22 began a new chapter in his life after the events in East Deutchland, and worked once again in the streets as a card player, but this time as a tarot card reader along French cities’s strip districts.
One night he met a lovely young woman with a troubled past from southern Scotland, and decided after having a dream of the two of them holding a child that he'd ask her out. After 10 months she left him for another man, once again leaving Thaddeus alone.
He traveled to bars struggling with his seer abilities and trying to keep his mouth shut; he turned to drinking.
He ceased performing for some time and tried to live a "normal wizards life" by working a muggle cover job whilst performing magic in his own home only.
At the age of 31 mr. Vantas was approached in a bar by a rather old wizard (after witnessing a mishap with running his mouth about someone's future and the receiver thinking Thaddeus was being a smart ass and socking him in the nose) as to which the old wizard revealed himself as the headmaster of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. He had been keeping tabs on Thaddeus for some time and noting his seeing abilities, offered him a safe environment to cope as well as teach and learn himself around his abilities as a Divination teacher. Thaddeus reluctantly accepted and began his teaching career at Hogwarts.
The year of his hire, during a late fall evening at Hogsmead, Thaddeus was enjoying a bottle of Fire Whiskey to himself, when he was rudely bumped into at the bar of the Hogshead by a Fifth year student. Astris Captor was promptly given an impromptu prophecy of his distant future, Thaddeus having had physical contact with him immediately blurted out “Don’t Let Those Scar Over” before waving the confused fifteen year old away telling him to ignore the short babble. . .
Seven years passed, Thaddeus once again has an encounter with the now twenty-two year old Captor. This time the lad was heading off on a grand adventure; Thaddeus sensed a strong likeness to the sight, and asked the boy what he was going there to major in…only to learn it was in the exact opposite area of expertise. Thaddeus approached the boy with intrigue and listened to Astris’s plans, but heard that it was on hold due to a lack in muggle money to fund the research. Thaddeus considered it ridiculous and voiced his opinion that one shouldn’t have to save their whole life to spend their life wisely. . . he decided then and there, for some odd reason that he’d fund Astris’s trip, having made quite a lot of muggle cash on his street job. He saw Astris off and gave him the funding he needed to get his new life on the road, not wanting him to feel encaged since Thaddeus knew all too well the struggle of life inopportune times.
Three years went by, (Age now 41) and Thaddeus slowly but surely (after the ministry registering him as a legal “seer”) made his presence known in the magical community as a Muggle Equality supporter, and a public awareness speaker. Thaddeus made it known he didn’t support any kind of oppression and anyone who was willing to try and match him in word fights was basically insane.
Later that same year, Thaddeus was appointed as Headmaster of Hogwarts. (See Teaching class section).
As the years passed, Thaddeus ceased receiving letters from his growing friend Astris, and was concerned with his disappearance, to which he weaseled in with his now slightly leveraged job, and as a respected wizard, placed a tab on the return of the Captor so he’d be notified of his return to Europe … if he ever did.
Shortly after hiring Freyir Ampora into Hogwarts as the History of Magic’s professor… Thaddeus was informed that Astris was indeed alive and had returned to Europe…and during the summer of the next, Thaddeus found his younger friend only to see the trouble’s he’d brought home with him from the turbulent travels…Thaddeus soon realized Astris had changed his major…Thaddeus’s old home of the Astrology tower now belonged to Astris, and tbh it wasn’t long until Thaddeus that Astris already had an old friend. Things have been moving smoothly ever since, and Astris has an evening tea talk over with him on Fridays or when Astris is stressed.
This year ought to be interesting.
For Professors: Why is your character teaching the class they are?
After receiving the job as Divination teacher, Thaddeus’s powers as a seer controlled his daily life and spread throughout his teachings, doing readings and trying to have others reach their inner eye. As the years flew by, the older headmaster became too old to hold his position, and in his stead, placed Thaddeus believing him to be the wisest of the faculty to assume patriarch of the school and headmaster. Initially, Thaddeus refused and told him he wasn’t ready…the headmaster revealed he was dying of explicitly old age, and assured him in all his years he hadn’t seen anyone more capable as Thaddeus. Thaddeus had been a Divination teacher for ten years before being asked to be Headmaster. He’s now been headmaster and occasionally subs for Divination/Astrology and transfiguration for seventeen years.
Thaddeus’s gift gives him great wisdom and great advice, insight and decision making abilities.
Quirks & Et cetera…
- Has two grandsons that he was not aware of until Kankri’s first year of notice to Hogwarts, to which Thaddeus promptly had a private melt down because he’d never known he’d had any children let alone two grandsons.
- Tends to spends Friday nights with Astris in the astronomy Tower as well as in his office, and spends a night or two a month visiting Aza’zel in his house near the Forbidden Forest.
- Slips off once a month to the Whomping Willow and somehow makes his way back without being scratched.
- Sometimes mutters to himself in German for no visual reason
- Knows several different languages, including broken French, Latin, German, Russian, and English.
- Has a sneaking suspicion that Freyir and Astris have something going on, but his intuition normally doesn’t lie. . . hmm.
