-LOOKS-
Appearance: Standing at five feet, six inches, Kankri isn’t the most intimidating student on the block. His brown hair never stays down, and sometimes he wonders if a dragon tamer is needed to tame his hair. However annoying as his constant bed head is, it makes him look more approachable, which is something he is glad for, being a Prefect. His eyes, however, are another story. They’re a bright red, similar to the red coating on candy apples. He used to be self conscious over his eyes, but over the years he learned that they made him unique from others and decided to live with them with pride. His school uniform is always adorned in the perfect manner, making him look almost professional much to his liking. He may be a student, but that doesn’t mean he should look like one, now does it?
-ABOUT-
Personality: Some people would call Kankri a stick in the mud, others a party pooper, and others would call him a teacher’s pet. Honestly, the list of things he’s called goes on. Why is he called these things? Kankri is seen as a very ‘by the book’ student, always giving trouble makers a hard time, whether they are in his house or not. He follows the rules, though he alters some to better fit his beliefs which he sticks to as if it’s a code in his DNA. Kankri tends to come off as annoying and rude the first few times meeting him, though that’s mainly because he acts like he is above everyone. Now, he does this for others more than himself. He wants to be a role model or an example for others, saying ‘follow what you think is right and that’s how you’ll succeed and be the best.’
Kankri believes that almost everyone deserves to be great, though he says almost everyone because not everyone is a good person. He also has a sort of loathing for wealthier people, and nobility, though that’s only if they’re corrupt. Why? Kankri wasn’t exactly the richest person growing up. His family had money issues and almost starved and even lived on the streets for a while. During that time he had friends with more than enough money that didn’t do anything to help him. He always wanted to be nice and fair, but he realized that good people are not always rewarded. Not right away at least. Any of the friends he had asked for help ended up avoiding him. Eventually things got better, especially when Kankri got his letter to Hogwarts. He obviously accepted.
Now, the reason Kankri isn’t bitter to those of higher classes than him is because of how he felt when he was left alone and ignored. Why should others have to feel that way? Of course he holds a grudge and his fuse with them might be shorter, but he still attempts to play nice. It’s the people that also ACT above the rest that annoy him. He can only tolerate those types of people for so long. He also dislikes bullies, though he might sometimes be considered a bully himself thanks to his rants, or ‘verbal assaults’ as a few students have called them. He only talks so much because he became so accustomed to it thanks to repeat offenders that had to be told multiple times.
Okay, so he just likes to give little speeches like that to make him feel a little higher up, he’ll admit. It’s not something he’s proud of, but it’s just how he is. He likes to think that his form of social justice is like a nice and neat book that everyone wants to read. In reality though? The only one reading it is him. He doesn’t mind that. It’s just another unique thing about him. He shouldn’t hate himself more for each flaw, but instead work to love them and himself to try and make himself a better person. He knows he isn’t perfect, and he knows he isn’t as great a person as he likes to think he is. Everything will sort itself out though in time is what he tells himself. Of course he won’t openly admit that his views may be flawed, but that’s because he’ll always believe in said views. Yes, they will change and alter as time goes on, but he will stick to them and he refuses to let anyone other than himself change them. He’s virtually unmoved by other peoples’ opinions on him (unless the person is important to him.)
All of that aside, Kankri is very pleasant to be around so long as you’re on his good side. He might seem agitated, but if anything that’s just his way of showing he cares. He has a bad habit of pushing people away, which just makes being his friend harder, but once you’re in his circle, you might have trouble getting out. Kankri isn’t all that popular for anything other than the fact that ‘if you’re caught by him, you’ll have your ear talked off!’ Meaning? He doesn’t have many friends. When he finally accepts someone as a friend, he might be a bit clingy. It’s not that he means to, it’s more the fact that even he can’t deny that having friends is a huge comfort. He’s also protective of his friends and treats them like family, meaning if someone does something to a friend, he will most likely be on their tail in no time. This is why he is in Hufflepuff. His bravery to stand up for and be himself might have qualified him for Gryffindor, something the sorting hat had said, but apparently once it looked deeper, the hat saw some things that Kankri didn’t at the time. He was actually a little appalled to be put in Hufflepuff. The first two years he was even called the ‘Slytherin of the Hufflepuff table.’ Not a reputation someone wants. He’s still called that sometimes, but at this point it hardly bothers him. Why should it? The only opinion that matters is his own (and those of his friends and family, though he tends to keep that to himself.)
Overall, Kankri is a great person to be friends with (though the road to friendship may be a bit difficult) and is loyal to the end. Seriously though. Watch out for the talking your ear off thing. Even he can’t deny that that’s true to some extent.
Background (Why Hogwarts? Childhood? Any connections to other characters?): Kankri attended Hogwarts because his grandfather, Thaddeus, is the headmaster there. He also knew that his younger brother, Karkat would most likely also attend. His childhood was a good one despite being on the streets for a short while, but that’s the worst he went through.
Quirks & Et cetera (Anything else you would like to add?): Kankri’s cat, Artemis, has been with him for ten years now and he raised her from a kitten. He named her Artemis after the Greek Goddess of the moon and hunt because her eyes shine like the moon when the light hits them properly, and she has a bad habit of bringing the things she kills to Kankri. Heh. She’s his little hunter. He also looks up to his grandfather and openly tries to be more like him. He wishes to be the next Headmaster at Hogwarts, despite his dream of being an Auror (which he’s had since he was a kid out of admiration).
